Career: One of the first female emcees who pioneered the way for women representing hip-hop culture.
Facts and Accomplishments:  Roxanne Shante's career started very early, actually at the age of only 14 years old.

At the time, a group back then known as UTFO recorded a song called "Roxanne Roxanne" which eventually became a big hit about their attempts to seduce a woman by the name of Roxanne.

One night Shante got upset over the fact that UTFO has skipped out on a promised appearance. Shante thern offered to record a dis record. That track would come to be known as "Roxanne's Revenge," produced by Marley Marl.

Overnight, the song become a hit, making Roxanne Shante one of the few first female emcees to hit mainstream. Sources say that Shante couldn't even attend school due to her then popularity.

Following her success there were over one hundred more "Roxanne" answer records. Roxanne Shante signed with Cold Chillin' Records and was labelmates with Biz Markie, Kool G Rap, MC Shan and a list of others including Big Daddy Kane who wrote a number of songs for the Queens native. She also recorded with the late Rick James on a track called "Loosey's Rap," which is considered a rare to find recording. Roxanne Shante eventually shed from the limelight and eventually fell back into normal life. She pursued her education and eventually recieved a Degree in Psychology thus making her now known as Dr. Roxanne Shante. Currently, she has two kids and still is actively involved in hip-hop and is currently an Ambassador to the UN along with KRS One and Africa Bambatta representing hip-hop while making keynote speeches across the country.
